Mrs. Calabro’s Mathematics Classes
Snake River High School
Algebra II

 Grading Scale:

90 – 100% A
80 – 89 % B
70 – 79 % C
60 – 69 % D
0  - 59 %  F

Grading:  Tests: 70%
Daily work:  30%

Tests:  Tests are normally given at the end of a chapter.  Occasionally a chapter will be divided into two major tests or a major quiz and a test.  A comprehensive final will be given at the end or the trimester.  The final counts as two test grades.  The average of these tests will count toward 70% of your course average.  At the end of the trimester I will drop the lowest test grade to compute your course average on tests.

Students who are absent on the test day and are eligible to take the test have 10 school days to make up the test outside of class. (Before school, after school, or ENCORE.  Do not interrupt my classes or lunch.)

Daily work:  30% of your grade is made up of assignments,  quick quizzes, enrichments, etc.  Assignments are due at the beginning of the period on the next school day after assigned.   Late assignments are docked 10% each school day late. No assignments will be accepted after 5 school days late unless extended illness or death in the family requires a lengthy absence.  Be sure to check your assignment and indicate how many missed at the top before handing in the assignment.    Extra credit/enrichments may not be handed in late.
Please do assignments in pencil.  Do not just write down answers (unless the question does not require any calculations).  You need to practice justifying your answer by arithmetic, algebra, a diagram, or words.

Tardy policy:  1st tardy   no penality
2nd , 3rd*, 4th*  tardy  20 minute detention
5th , 6th, 7th … tardy referral to Mr. Ray Carter
*Parents are notified on the 3rd or 4th tardy
Students who are 5 minutes or more tardy are given a Late Absence and a 20 minute detention.  If you are detained by a staff member,  please bring a signed note excusing your tardy.  Note: Tardies to 1st Period.  If you have a parent note excusing your tardy, please check in the Office (Mrs. Lewis).  Mrs. Lewis will mark on an attendance form if the reason is Doctor’s appointment, excused tardy, or unexcused tardy.  An unexcused tardy falls under tardy policy above.  If you know your tardy is unexcused, just come straight to class without going to the office.

Attendance :   If you are absent for any reason besides a school activity, you must bring me a white attendance excuse from  the office.  A 20 minute  detention may be given for failure to get an admit.
If you are past the six days allowed under the attendance policy, make sure to have Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Nelson, or Mr. Carter sign the admit.  I will not accept an admit from Student Service.
After your 6th class absence, I will give you the work missed during the absence but you can not receive credit for it if your absence is not excused by the guidelines of the Snake River High Attendance Policy.

Class atmosphere:  Detentions are given for various reasons such as being tardy, talking, out-of-seat, disturbing class, forgetting supplies/book, etc.  Frequent problems will result in parent notification and/or referral to Mr. Carter.
In general, I like to start class immediately at the tardy bell and have students working until dismissal.  I appreciate students who have their materials ready, book and notebook open, and pencil sharpened without interrupting anyone.  Please be prepared so borrowing can be avoided.
No food or drink in the classroom.  Gum needs to stay in mouth or put in waste can.    Any electronic equipment (cell phone, walkman, pager) should be turned off and left in backpack.  You may not use a cell phone as a calculator.  I will take away any devise or toy that is distracting the class.  Return of the object depends on a student conference, parent conference, and/or action by an administrator.                                                       Do not write on books, walls, desks, etc.  Please be quiet during Channel One and announcements.  Do not walk toward door before the dismissal bell rings.
